We all know that Oral Care at home is important!
Regular brushing helps to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, as well as keeping your mouth fresh, but it’s a good idea to take a look at your technique and make sure you are cleaning your teeth effectively. It is important to brush teeth properly to ensure adequate oral care.
Here are some tooth brushing tips to ensure a healthier, cleaner mouth
Use a soft to medium bristled brush to avoid potential erosion of tooth enamel and choose one with a smaller head as it will allow for better access to the back of the mouth. Replace your toothbrush at least once every 3-4 months.
Brush for at least two minutes, twice a day, especially before you go to bed. It can help to divide your mouth into four sections and spend 30 seconds on each area. Don’t brush too hard as it can actually wear away enamel. For the most effective plaque removal, try holding your brush at a 45° angle towards your gums.
Use a toothpaste with fluoride to help strengthen enamel and don’t rinse your mouth, just spit out the toothpaste to give the fluoride a chance to work. If you have sensitive teeth, try using a toothpaste specially designed to counteract sensitivity.
Interdental cleaning is an essential part of maintaining your oral health. This can include flossing, using interdental brushes or a combination of both. You can also use mouthwash at a different time to brushing.
As a preventative practice, we encourage regular dental visits and good oral care at home and aim to supply you with all the information, advice and support in order to achieve good awareness.
Encourage the younger members of your family to develop the brushing habit but make sure you supervise them until they are old enough to clean their teeth effectively on their own.
