teeth crowns in a line

Dental Crowns fit neatly over unsightly or broken teeth, providing complete coverage and restoring strength, shape and appearance. They offer an aesthetic restoration for broken, decayed or discoloured teeth, or those with large fillings.

Made from porcelain, ceramic or metal alloys, crowns can also be used on teeth that have had root canal treatment or secured to dental implants to replace missing teeth. They are matched in size, shape and colour to sit comfortably alongside existing teeth.

As long as crowns are looked after carefully, by avoiding very hard or chewy foods and thoroughly cleaning teeth, they can last for years.

What Happens during a Dental Crown Appointment

  • During a routine appointment,
  • A layer of enamel is removed from the tooth to accommodate the crown.
  • Impressions of the prepared tooth are taken and sent away to our laboratory.
  • To protect the tooth between appointments, it may be covered with a temporary crown.
  • When ready, this temporary crown is removed and the new permanent one fixed in place with a strong dental cement.

  • Can I have a tooth coloured, silver or gold crown?
  • Yes you can choose which colour you would like. This will be discussed at the consultation.
  • How long does it take?
  • It takes around 45 minutes to an hour for the first treatment. You will then need to come back 2 weeks later to have the crown fitted. This usually takes around 30 minutes.
  • How many appointments are needed?
  • 3 appointments are needed. This includes a consultation, the initial treatment and then the fitting.
  • Will it hurt?
  • Local anaesthetic can be injected to numb the area, so little to no discomfort is felt.
